Ivan Eskildsen, administrator of the Tourism Authority of Panama, recently presented the main tourist attractions of Panama City framed in the Tourism Master Plan for 2007 to 2020, during the third Tourism Cabinet held on August. Among these attractions stood out the Archaeological Site of Panama Viejo, Transistmica route, Camino de Cruces and Camino Real, as well as the city as a shopping center.

In addition, the path of Camino de Cruces was recognized by National Geographic among the 50 best excursions in the world, Eskildsen said. Under this premise, the main purpose is to promote this tourist attraction filled with history and natural wealth, located just minutes away from the city. Also, between Panama and Colon there are three monumental sites that have been declared World Heritage by UNESCO, which are: The Fortifications on the Caribbean Side of Panama: Portobelo-San Lorenzo, the Archaeological Site of Panama Viejo and the Historic District of Panama. These sites add an exceptional value to the country that other nations do not have, for this reason, it is important to promote them within a complete tourism package to engage more visitors.

The Tourism Cabinet was created to coordinate with the state institutions, municipalities and public entities the necessary support required to carry out the actions for the development of tourism; the formation of human resources; improvement of security services, infrastructure, access roads, tourism facilities and public services (drinking water, electricity, waste disposal and sewage, telecommunications, among others).

Likewise, this entity contributes in the improvement of the processes involved within the private tourism investment; coordinates all investments under the figure of public-private partnerships for tourism purposes with the support of local communities; promotes incentives to support the development of the tourism master plan objectives; works with each municipality in the creation of digital tools to inform visitors about their tourist products, among other objectives.
